Slim chances for Pandev to stay in Lazio

According to Skopje based sport daily Macedonian Sport, Atletico Madrid is very close to signing Lazio star Goran Pandev after Atletico's officials have announced their visit in Rome today.

The price tag isn't known yet, however the speculation is Atletico is prepared to pay 15 million euros for the signing of Pandev. Baern Munich may complicate things a bit as few months ago they were offering 18 million euros.

Atletico Madrid to show they are very serious in bringing Pandev to Spain, are currently meeting with Lazio officials.

Pandev has expressed he would like to stay in Lazio, under the conditions Lazio makes it to the Champions League, and the Macedonian extends his contract beyond 2010 for 1.5m euros per season.

Currently Lazio is in a dog fight for a spot in the Champions League, and their embarassing loss 1-4 to Cagliari, didn't help. Pandev has also not signed any extension to his contract, which means in few months, under UEFA rules, he could buy it out for maximum amount of 3 million euros, much less than what Lazio would earn if they were to sell him.

Atletico Madrid would like to sign Pandev immediately, says Macedonian sport, as Atletico is already in the 1/8 final of the Champions league where FC Porto awaits.

If Pandev signs with Atletico as its coach Vicente Calderone and fans wish, the attacking trio would be Pandev - Aguero - Forlan.
